Senegal Inflation Rate at 1.30 percent


The annual inflation rate in Senegal rose to 1.3 percent in August 2019 from 1.1 percent in the previous month, mainly due to prices of clothing & footwear (1.3 percent vs 0.2 percent in July); transport (2.0 percent vs 1.8 percent); health (1.5 percent vs -0.3 percent) and communication (2.9 percent vs 0.7 percent). In contrast, cost slowed for food & non-alcoholic beverages (0.8 percent vs 1.3 percent); housing & utilities (0.2 percent vs 0.3 percent); recreation & culture (0.7 percent vs 0.9 percent) and alcoholic beverages & tobacco (9.9 percent vs 10.6 percent). Meantime, inflation was steady for miscellaneous goods & services (at 0.9 percent) and restaurants & hotels (at 1.7 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices inched up 1.9 percent, after increasing 0.3 percent in the prior month.
