Senegal Inflation Rate at 2.00 percent


The annual inflation rate in Senegal quickened to 2 percent in January of 2020 from 0.6 percent in the previous month. It was the highest inflation rate since last June, as food prices rebounded (2 percent vs -0.2 percent in December). In addition, cost rose faster for clothing & footwear (1.2 percent vs 0.3 percent); miscellaneous goods & services (1.2 percent vs 1.1 percent); restaurants & hotels (2.6 percent vs 1.8 percent); communication (1.5 percent vs flat reading) and health (1.3 percent vs 1 percent). Conversely, inflation softened primarily for housing & utilities (0.8 percent vs 1.2 percent) and transport (1.6 percent vs 1.9 percent) while cost dropped for alcoholic beverages & tobacco (-0.2 percent vs 2.2 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices edged up 0.1 percent, after decreasing 0.7 percent in the previous month.

Senegal Industrial Production at 1.90 percent


Industrial production in Senegal increased 1.9 percent year-on-year in December 2019, up from a downwardly revised 1.7 percent rise in the previous month. Output rose for food products (16.7 percent); energy (5.8 percent) and building materials (0.1 percent). On a monthly basis, industrial production jumped 19.5 percent, after an upwardly revised 1.9 percent decline in the preceding month. Considering the full year of 2019, industrial output grew 2.2 percent over a year ago.
